1. What is iLearn?
iLearn (http://ilearn.sfsu.edu) is a Learning Management System (LMS) that SF State has adopted to enhance online student learning and collaboration. Whether an instructor uses iLearn to merely supplement a course or teach an entire class online-- instructors may customize their use of iLearn features by mixing and matching technology that best fits the course objectives and student needs. Instructors may use iLearn to enhance teaching and learning in the following ways:
- Sharing online resources
- Facilitating student interactivity and collaboration
- Assessing student performance and gathering student feedback
2. How do I log in to iLearn?
View the step-by-step instructional document on how to log in to iLearn (How to log in QuickGuide). For more iLearn Quick Guides on other topics, please refer to the Quick Guides help page.
3. How do I signup for iLearn?
If you are a registered SF State student or faculty, you're already signed up.
You can log on to iLearn using your SF State ID and your SF State Password.
4. How do I enroll in my iLearn courses?
Enrollment is handled automatically. If the registrar shows you are enrolled in a course, you should be enrolled in the matching iLearn course.
5. What if I forgot my password?
If you are a registered SF State student or SF State faculty, your password is your SF State password. If you cannot remember your SF State password or need to change it, you can do that at the following website: http://www.sfsu.edu/online/troubletips.htm.
6. Who do I contact if I have other problems with iLearn?
To contact us, please use the iLearn Support Form.
7. What is a "fully online course" at SF State?
At SF State, a fully online course meets face-to-face no more than three times in a sixteen-week semester. As a subsitute , technology-based instructional delivery systems come into place for facilitating the teaching-learning activities.
All types of online courses should be subject to standards of good electronic instructional practice, intellectual
property and copyrighted materials constraints, assessment of student learning outcomes, etc.
8. What is a "hybrid online" course?
A course in which the students receive between 30% and 79% of the instruction using distance delivery media and methods,
such as the Internet and related digital and telecommunication media.
All types of online courses should be subject to standards of good electronic instructional practice, intellectual property
and copyrighted materials constraints, assessment of student learning outcomes, etc.
9. What is a "supplemental online" course?
A course that utilizes web materials and activities to affect less than 30% of course instruction.
All types of online courses should be subject to standards of good electronic instructional practice, intellectual property
and copyrighted materials constraints, assessment of student learning outcomes, etc.
10. Who takes online courses and why?
Flexibility and convenience are mainly what draw people to online courses. In asynchronous learning, each "class" is held wherever and whenever the student wants it, and students advance at their own paces and according to their own schedules.
Many of our students are taking courses to upgrade their professional skills. Others are preparing for career changes or pursuing
personal interests. Yet others are studying toward degrees. They come from all over the United States and beyond; they come from cities, suburbs, and
towns, as well as more isolated areas; and they range in age from 18 to over 60.
11. Why can't I open Microsoft Word, Excel or Powerpoint documents?
Microsoft Office 2007 for Windows and Office 2008 for MAC files are incompatible with earlier versions of Office. The new document files end in .docx, (Word) .xlsx (Excel), and .pptx. (Powerpoint).
In order to view these files on Microsoft Windows, you will need to download the Office Compatibility Pack
In order to view these files on Mac OS X, you will need to download the Open XML File conversion tool.
12. Why can't I see my course listed?
If you do not see your course listed, it may be because the information we received from the registrar does not reflect your enrollment. That does not mean you are not enrolled in the class.
We receive new enrollment data from the registrar every day. Sometimes it will take up to 24 hours before the changes are reflected in your iLearn account.
If you have just added a course, please check back periodically during the next 24 hours.
13. Why can't I access my course?
Courses that are highlighted in gray have not been made available to students yet.
The course list displays all the courses in which you are enrolled. However, this may not mean the instructors intend to use iLearn to supplement the course this semester.
If you cannot access a course because your instructor has not made it available, you should contact the instructor.
