Upcoming downtime

On Saturday, January 30th at 10:00PM to Sunday, January 31st at 6:00AM, the Division of Information Technology will be performing a network upgrade that will affect access to all campus network applications, including iLearn.
iLearn will not be accessible during this time.
Impact of recent campus e-mail issues
Due to campus e-mail issues over the last few days, messages sent through iLearn may have been delayed. The Division of Information Technology (DoIT) has been addressing e-mail and authentication interruptions that began on Saturday, December 12, but has not determined the root cause. These interruptions have affected Domino users (IMAP, POP, and DWA) and Portal access. In addition, brief IMAP service outages have occurred on mail01a/b. DoIT believes these issues have been resolved.
Wrap Up The Fall 2009 Semester
It is getting to be time for end of semester maintenance on your iLearn courses. Remember that you will have access to this semester's classes for one year and one semester from the end of the semester the course was taught. At that point we will remove the courses from the system.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. The online teaching and learning support office will be open through December 22. The office will open again on January 5th, from 9am to 5pm. Drop-ins are welcome, but appointments are highly appreciated.
Grades are due January 5th 2010.

Authentication problems, Friday 13th of November
On Friday the 13th of November at approximately 5:40pm, users experienced some difficulty with authentication across campus. Various campus services were affected, including iLearn and several email servers.
The issue was resolved on Friday night around 8:50pm.
Please let us know if you continue to be unable to log in to iLearn.
Upcoming iLearn down times
Academic Technology services such as iLearn, CourseStream, Diva, and all other AT websites will not be available on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, due to a scheduled power shutdown to accommodate campus electrical work projects.
We apologize for any inconvenience. Please plan accordingly.
iLearn slowness issues
iLearn has been experiencing intermittent slowness for the past 24 hours. You may experience long load times while using iLearn.
Our team is investigating the issue and hopes to resolve the underlying cause soon. In the meantime, we suggest making sure you give yourself enough time to complete tasks in iLearn, such as quizzes, and if you do experience slowness, let us know at ilearn@sfsu.edu with the following details: the time you experienced slowness, what activity you were using (e.g. submitting a quiz), and how long the page took to load. These details will help our team narrow down the cause.
We thank you for your patience as we work to resolve these issues.
A brief introduction to the iLearn grade book
One of the major improvements that was made for this semester in iLearn was to the built in grade book. This screencast gives a brief introduction to the grade book and how it functions in your iLearn course.
Advice on taking quizzes on iLearn
When taking a quiz on iLearn, take time to read the details that are posted before attempting a quiz. The description page for the quiz will tell you important information on when the quiz will open, how long you have to take the quiz, if you can take more than one attempt and when the quiz will close. Note that if the quiz is timed, the countdown continues even if you are logged out of iLearn. Clicking on the Save without submitting button will save your progress, but it does not pause the timer.
Make sure you are not using any other network intensive applications while taking a quiz, such as streaming video or audio, or running any large downloads in the background. Here at iLearn Central we generally recommend using a wired connection whenever possible when taking a quiz, as sometimes WIFI connections can drop out and prevent you from submitting a quiz successfully.
Good luck on all your quizzes this semester!
