i>Clicker users will need to re-register clickers for the Spring 2012
Students who are using i>Clicker for the Spring 2012 semester will need to enter their clicker information into iLearn even if the student used clickers in the Fall 2012 semester. If you are a student in a class using clickers, check the iLearn class for the i>Clicker block and click on Remote Registration to enter the ID found on the back of your clicker device.

Scheduled maintenance on CourseStream server January 12, 2012 from 7:00AM to 10:00AM
On Thursday January 12, 2012 from 7:00AM-10:00AM, Academic Technology will be conducting a scheduled maintenance to upgrade the CourseStream server. During the scheduled time, CourseStream will be unavailable to users for publishing and viewing content, including Personal Capture (PCAP) lectures.
The upgrade improves system functionality but does not make any changes visible to the user. If you have any questions or concern please contact us at the AT help desk by calling (415) 405-5555 or x55555 from on campus, or by emailing coursestream@sfsu.edu.
Scheduled power outage January 16, 2012

Congratulations on finishing the Fall 2011 semester!
Here are a few reminders to make sure you end the Fall 2011 semester right:
- Grades are due Tuesday, January 3, 2012
- Instructors must enter grades using the faculty tools provided by DoIT. Grades do not transfer automatically from iLearn to the registrar's office.
- Spring 2012 classes are already in the system. Instructors can access them by clicking on Show all my courses... and then on the Spring 2012 link. Students will not be able to see Spring courses until after Fall grades are due.
- Faculty should check out the end of semester checklist for tips and tricks on ending the semester smoothly.
- The Academic Technology helpdesk will be closed the week of December 26. We will re-open on Monday, January 2, 2012. All AT services including iLearn, CourseStream and DIVA will continue to operate during this time, but we will be unable to answer inquiries until our office re-opens.

Advice on taking quizzes on iLearn
When taking a quiz on iLearn, take time to read the details that are posted before attempting a quiz. The description page for the quiz will tell you important information on when the quiz will open, how long you have to take the quiz, if you can take more than one attempt and when the quiz will close. Note that if the quiz is timed, the countdown continues even if you are logged out of iLearn. Clicking on the Save without submitting button will save your progress, but it does not pause the timer.
If there are short answer questions, exact spelling is required. If you enter an answer that is misspelled, iLearn will mark it as incorrect.
This year we have implemented two improvements to the quiz to make it a more reliable experience. The first is a change to prevent content being lost if you are accidentally logged out of iLearn. If you are logged out of iLearn due to your session timing out (meaning you were logged in, but inactive for more than four hours) or are logged out due to having multiple iLearn pages open, the quiz will save your answers and should retain them when you re-log in. However, if your window closes or you quit your browser without saving, the accidental logout protection will NOT trigger, and your content will not be saved. As a reminder, it is usually recommended that you not have multiple tabs of iLearn open when you are taking a quiz, and navigating away from a quiz while you are taking it may be interpreted as cheating by your instructors.
The second improvement is intended to prevent accidental double submissions of quizzes. Once you have clicked on the submit quiz button, an animated icon will appear on the button indicating that the quiz is being sent and you will not be able to click on the submit button again. However, remember to never double click on the submission button, as the button lock may not trigger if you click too quickly.
Make sure you are not using any other network intensive applications while taking a quiz, such as streaming video or audio, or running any large downloads in the background. We generally recommend using a wired connection whenever possible when taking a quiz, as sometimes WIFI connections can drop out and prevent you from submitting a quiz successfully.
As a final reminder, make sure you do not wait until the last minute to do your quizzes and exams on iLearn. The later you wait, the higher the risk you are taking of a technical problem happening. The helpdesk will be open throughout finals during our normal hours of 8AM to 5PM, Monday through Friday. We cannot answer emails, phone, or offer chat support outside of those hours.
Good luck on all your quizzes and final exam!
